Simple Cornrows using Blended Beauty Products

Two weekends ago, I washed and styled my 2 year old God-Daughter's hair.  I didn't have much time plus I had my 2 year old and my other God-Daughter who is 1.  Her mom wanted something that would last for the week, so I thought cornrows would probably be the best option.  I am not much of a "corn-rower" at all and usually avoid doing it at all cost but I think I did a pretty good job, probably the BEST so far!  I had another opportunity to use Blended Beauty Products and must say I was even more amazed this go' round.

This is a quick hair style I did on my niece this past weekend.  Let me start by saying, her hair is very different from my daughters' hair, it is long and fine with very loose curls (tangles very easily).  I don't consider myself to be equipped with the "necessary"products for her hair type but when I typically do her hair, I do what I can with what I have.  So this time, I had the pleasure of trying some new products from Blended Beauty children's line called Blended Cutie (Thanks KandyLand Kurls & Stacey).  You can find these products at www.blendedbeauty.com.  I really enjoyed using these products!  Stay tuned for a detailed product review of each product.

This style was done on BG "M" about a month ago (I know, I know...don't judge me).  The summer break was coming to an end and her hair was doing some serious shedding (this could have been from all the swimming).  So I wanted to give her a quick and simple style along with a good protein deep conditioning treatment.  I used the Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Replenishing Pak (Deep Penetrating Conditioner) and must say I was definitely pleased.  I left this deep conditioner in her hair about 45 minutes and it took very well to her hair. The hair was soft, moisturized, manageable and in better condition overall. The shedding was also reduced drastically.

The Beginning of BG "S" Loc Journey =)

As most of you know from the post titled, Loc'ing Your Child's Hair...Yay or Nay? ,we decided to loc BG "S" hair.  Yay!! I am so excited and looking forward to this new hair journey.  Before twisting her hair, I simply followed BG "S" Hair Care Regimen.  BG "S"  loc start date was Tuesday August 8th, 2012.  The pictures below show the process of completing her two-strand twists along with a couple of styles her first week. I used Qhemet Biologics Aethiopika Hydrate & Twist Butter to twist the hair (love, love, love this stuff...review to come). I also did a lot of splitting, re-parting and combining the first week and a half to ensure the locs will be uniformed as much as possible...stay tuned!!!   

  It took a total of 7 hours over 3 days to complete, she has some really THICK hair!  The botton right picture shows me splitting the bottom row into smaller twists (btw, look at that definition!)

Bantu Knots with Two Strand Twists

This style was done about 2 weeks ago on BG "M".  I was inspired by Une Autre Naturelle (Pinwheel Bantu Knots) yet again, lol.  I still have to work on my parting skills but I think I did a pretty good job for the most part =)  So I didn't quite get the pinwheel effect o_O.  I did this style on damp hair and it was pretty easy and quick.  I two-strand twisted the hair before putting in the bantu-knots.

Natural Free Hair (Late Post)

I try to let the girls where their hair out after taking down a style before washing and restyling just to let the hair "breathe".  This is how they wore their hair on Father's Day.

They LOVE wearing their hair out, especially BG "M" (oldest)!  These pics are after removing an old hairstyle.  So, after removing the styles, I simply applied some KCKT mixed with water and oil to BG "M" (left) and applied Cara B Moisturizing Mist followed by coconut oil to BG "S" (right), brushed and Voila!  BG "M" previous style was in twists (party bun) and BG "S" had chunky cornrows.

So yesterday was a big day for BG "M". She was officially promoted from Kindergarten to 1st Grade! Yayy!!!  Well, I just got back in town from celebrating my birthday and needless to say I am still exhausted and in need of some serios sleep o_O. I had to take-out her box braids, wash and style her hair the night before graduation.  I literally didn't have a clue as to how I wanted to style her hair until Tuesday when I came across the Party Bun Post by KandyLandKurls (life saver).  The style was inspired by Une Autre Naturelle, can you say absolutely gorg!  I was a little nervous about how it would turn out but I just went for it.  I did this style on damp hair. Its not identical but it'll due, lol.

After removing her box braids, I washed with Giovanni Smooth As Silk Deep Moisture Shampoo and conditioned with Giovanni Smooth As Silk Deep Moisture Conditioner.  I parted the hair into six sections.  With each section I applied Shea Moisture Curl & Style Milk, followed with Carol's Daughter Hair Balm.  I secured the base of the hair with two rubber bands and began twisting.  After twisting each section, I followed the steps and began securing the hair accordingly.  Just as simple as putting on shoes and she LOVED IT!    :-D

BG "M" Box Braids with a Curl

Today was picture day at BG "M"s school today...good old Cap & Gown pictures!  Well, after a fun-filled weekend of water play for her 6th Birthday at Great Wolf Lodge, we successfully managed to keep her hair dry with a Speedo Critter Creeps Swim Cap (Combo Pack)...that is of course until we got home and my husband decided to let them play with the water hose! So the first thing that pops in my head is, what am I going to do with her hair?!  Taking the box braids out was not an option as I was completely exhausted from the weekend!  So I thought why not curl them...which is what I did.  I used my perm rods that I use to get my locs curled.  I first sprayed her hair with Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Leave-In Conditioner (w/ added Sweet Almond Oil) and then began to roll each braid.  I kept them in overnight, took them out this morning, applied Carol's Daughter Hair Balm and pinned some braids to the side and this is what I got! :-D

BG "M" Box Braids

BG "M" turns the big S-I-X on Friday and we're going to an indoor water-themed park!  So, I decided to do her hair in a quick style that would last for the week and be able to survive the element of all the water activities we have to look forward to this weekend (yay)!

Her hair was previously washed and dried, it was actually in a puff ball (should have snapped a pic). I started by spraying the hair with a mixture of distilled water and KCKT (Kinky Curly Knot Today) to detangle, I then applied the KCCC (Kinky Curly Curling Custard) and began braiding, this was the first time I used the KCCC on BG "M" hair.  The ends curled up on their own, needless to say she LOVED her hair and I liked the way it turned out!

I will be keeping her hair moisturized with Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Moisturizing Leave-In Conditioner (w/ added Sweet Almond Oil) and CD's Hair Balm.
