Faux Mo-Hawk and Simple Twists (Quick Styles on Children)

Two weekends ago I had to do (3) heads...thats right 3!!  I did my youngest's hair on that Friday and my oldest daughter and niece on Sunday.  We had a birthday dinner to attend on Saturday, so I just threw the oldest girls hair in ponytails since it had to be washed, not to mention they are (9) and (7 soon to be 8) where their hair is a big deal.  Since I had to wash their hair on Sunday night, I opted to do something quick and cute on both.

Here is a picture of "the girls" on Saturday (the night of our outing).  BG "S"  hair was styled in loose two-strand twists that were braided about an 1/2 inch first.  Unfortunately, I don't have any close-up shots of her hair.  The two oldest like I stated before have high ponytails w/ twists and a twist-out.

What I Say:

I used this product on (3) unique hair textures and I can honestly say it is great!  It does an excellent job at detangling and moisturizing (detangling was actually a breeze with this lotion).  It provides great slip, adds an amazing shine to the hair and makes the hair so manageable and soft.  This product is also a winner because it can be used as your leave-in.  It also plays well with other products, who doesn't want that?! Check out results HERE and HERE.

Ingredients:
Aloe Water, Vegetable Glycerine, Capryl Isostearate, Rice Bran oil , Natural Conditioner, Natural Preservative Optiphen, Rosemary Leaf Extract, Soy Protein, Silk Powder

**** I give this product a 5 out of 5 Baby Curls****

Blended Beauty Happy Nappy Styles
Cost: $21.00  (www.blendedbeauty.com/)
Size: 8 oz
Scent: Sweet & Pleasant (Cake)
Consistency: Rich Creamy & Thick

What They Say:
A rich and moisturizing styling cream for kinky curls and dreads, or highly textured hair. Style and define your curls or twist locs, while naturally hydrating. Perfect for finger twisting curls! Create defined curls, with maximum moisture and softness. Dries touchably soft and satiny, not sticky or greasy.

What I Say:

This styling cream is the bomb.com!  It is very moisturizing which is a big deal for us, it also keeps the frizzies at bay like no ones business, lol.  It also provides a nice hold.  I have used this product to twists, cornrow and maintain locs.  The definition after taking down twists is unbelievable and I had the best set of cornrows ever! I was surprised at the outcome after using it to maintain locs, BG "S" locs turned out very neat and soft.  You can go days without re-moisturizing with this product.

Ingredients:
Aloe and Chamomile Water, Rice Bran Oil, Shea Butter, Natural Conditioner, Polysorbate 20, Vegetable Glycerin, Capryl Isostearate, Soy Lecithin,Guar Gum, Natural Preservative Optiphin, Rosemary Leaf Extract, Silk Powder

**** I give this product a 5 out of 5 Baby Curls****

Blended Beauty Down & Out Styles
Cost: $21.00 (www.blendedbeauty.com/)
Size: 8 oz
Scent: Sweet & Pleasant (Cake)
Consistency: Rich Creamy & Thick

What They Say:
A gentle, moisturizing, conditioning and curl defining butter cream. Enriched with shea butter, chamomile and aloe, for smoothing, defrizzing and defining curls. Silk and Beantree create body and shine even on defiant frizzies. Wearing your hair down and out has never been easier!

What I Say:

This product appears to be a lighter version of Happy Nappy Styles.  Although it doesn't provide the hold that HNS provide, it did an excellent job at moisturizing and providing shine to the hair.   The hair was also full of bounce and body....oh and frizz free!  Pictures HERE.

Ingredients:
Aloe and Chamomile Water, Rice Bran Oil, Shea Butter, Natural Conditioner, Vegetable Glycerin, Polysorbate 20, Soy Lecithin, Capryl Isostearate, Guar Gum, Natural Preservative, Rosemary Leaf Extract, Silk Powder

**** I give this product a 4 out of 5 Baby Curls****

Blended Beauty Jelly Cream
Cost: $19.00  (www.blendedbeauty.com/)
Size: 8 oz
Scent: Sweet & Pleasant (Cake)
Consistency: Thick Lotion

What They Say:
A soft hold moisturizing gel lotion that defines and conditions curls, while nourishing the scalp and hair. Smooth and define each curl with natural conditioners. Absolutely no plastics! Only silky and bouncy curls...naturally! Jelly Cream has twice as much hold as the Down & Out creams.

What I Say:

This product certainly defined and conditioned the hair.  It laid down and smooth the hair but didn't provide much hold.  The hair also felt very smooth like "silk" and left the hair frizz free.  I can still feel the product on the hair after re-spritzing with water (I'm not sure how much I like that...). Although it worked well on my niece's hair type, I don't have much use for this product on my daughters' hair type.

Ingredients:
Aloe and Chamomile Water, Shea Butter, Vegetable Glycerin, Rice Bran Oil, Capryl Isostearate, Natural Conditioner, Soy Lecithin, Guar Gum, Natural Preservative Optiphin, Rosemary Leaf Extract, Silk Powder

**** I give this product a 4 out of 5 Baby Curls****

Simple Cornrows using Blended Beauty Products

Two weekends ago, I washed and styled my 2 year old God-Daughter's hair.  I didn't have much time plus I had my 2 year old and my other God-Daughter who is 1.  Her mom wanted something that would last for the week, so I thought cornrows would probably be the best option.  I am not much of a "corn-rower" at all and usually avoid doing it at all cost but I think I did a pretty good job, probably the BEST so far!  I had another opportunity to use Blended Beauty Products and must say I was even more amazed this go' round.

Quick & Simple Style for Toddler (Chunky Cornrows)

BG "S" started Summer Camp at her new school this week (Yippee...) and I wanted to do an easy style for the week.  Not to mention after taking down her mini braids I needed a quick style for my sanity, lol.  My first thought was to do flat twists but since her hair is sooo thick and I didn't feel like doing them small I opted to do chunky cornrows (I'm not a pro at doing cornrows since I don't do them often, this is literally my 4th time cornrowing her hair).  So let's get to it...

I prepoo'ed with Coconut Oil, washed with SM Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo and deep conditioned with Miss Jessie's Sweetback Treatment (review coming soon).  I then applied Qhemet Biologics Castor & Moringa Softening Serum, followed by Amla & Olive Heavy Cream (reviews coming soon) and then banded.

SN: This was the second time around doing this style since on her very first day at summer camp, she came home with a head full of sand! o_O (The joys of motherhood, our work is never done!)  The second time around I co-washed with Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner (review coming soon).
Taking a walk after banding in the warm weather to speed up the drying process

This style is holding up nicely and most of the ends are protected.  An easy style in is an easy style out!

Happy 2nd Birthday to BGC "S"

"Little Miss Sunshine" turned 2 on yesterday.  Boy, how time flies!  We had a pretty busy weekend with (3) birthday parties to attend including her party, so I decided to revisit cornrowing (deep breath).  Cornrowing still takes me forever to do, not to mention her hair is sooo thick.  I think I did okay, considering I don't cornrow that often!  Cornrowing was an instant reminder of why I love flat twisting so much!  Anywho, here are a couple of pictures from the weekend...

Project Improvement Cornrow

After a 1 year hiatus on cornrowing, I finally gathered the energy to try again...and I am quite pleased!  Although there is always room for improvement. Here is Baby Girl S at 17 months, I last cornrowed her hair at 7 months. (Check Post Titled: Baby Girl S First Cornrows)

Back View: The nape area of her neck is not from breakage but from growth;
the hair was always very fine and short.

Baby Girl S First Cornrows

Do not attempt to adjust you screen...these are images of what the cornrows actually look like. I didn't do too bad for my first time but I didn't do so great either...

Learning to Cornrow

Debra the Cosmetology Mannequin Head

Meet Debra,  my trusty mannequin head.  I ordered this cosmetology mannequin from Amazon.com. This is what I turned to in order to teach myself how to cornrow.  I did not want to put my daughters through the pain of having to wear a bad set of cornrows out in public.  Debra has definitely come in handy.  After getting frustrated and finding out I was teaching myself how to cornrow incorrectly, I gave Debra a break.  And then decided, let's try this again.....the right way.  Well, I am proud to announce that I am on the right track.  Perfect Practice makes Perfect!!!  Stay tuned to see how I improve...
